House 6

We have for many years, always wanted to teach independent living skills. During the pandemic, when we needed much more space so that we could support people in a socially distanced way, we purchased (on a loan) our own house.

It is number 6 Chapelside, only a minute away from our Training Centre/Charity Shop.

House Six is a three bedroomed maisonette and we have developed each room to offer many different learning experiences.

We have spaces at the moment for either full days at House Six or blended days with the Training Centre/Charity Shop. This service is available Monday – Friday between 9.00am and 3.00pm.

Outcomes are planned with individuals based on their own learning needs but generally include; cooking, shopping, cleaning and other household tasks.

We also have a room where furniture upcycling and restoration takes place and another where we use Ebay to sell items donated to our Charity Shop. Another room is used to test items for sale in the shop and to practise shop tasks.

The downstairs lounge has an exercise bike, excellent IT facilities and Wi-Fi, a comfortable area for completing worksheets and a social space for having lunch together.

The kitchen is fully fitted and has ample area for several learners to cook together.

Although this is a very new project it is very highly valued by both the learners attending and also their parents/carers.

As with all of our services, we are very proud to offer this resource and to help individuals become more independent.
